CASA/GAL Conference
Every two years OPA and the Alaska CASA program jointly sponsor a conference on advocacy for children and substantive issues in the area of child abuse and neglect. Usually, the conference is held in September in Anchorage. CASAs and staff and contract GALs participate and a portion of the conference is open to interested citizens and to professionals working in child welfare.
Alaska Child Maltreatment Conference
Every two years a group of agencies and businesses in the state combine resources to offer the Alaska Child Maltreatment Conference. The conference features nationally recognized speakers and local presenters who are experts in various aspects of child welfare.
CASA continuing education training
The Alaska CASA program requires CASA volunteers to participate in continuing education while they are CASAs. The continuing education series is open to all CASAs, staff GALs, and contract GALs.
Law and Community Health Forum
Law and Community Health Forum is the section of the Alaska Bar Association devoted to the intersection between law and those working in child welfare, juvenile justice, and the behavioral health fields. The section sponsors a monthly "brown bag" lunchtime training held on the second Tuesday of each month at noon at the Office of Public Advocacy's Main Conference Room. For more information contact the current section chairpersons.
